Late Friday night, one of my favorite local hip-hop groups Basic Shapes celebrated the release of their new album “Volume 1″ at the Ash Street Saloon in downtown Portland. The energy of the place was high, and it was easy to see everyone having a great time at the show.

I just wanted to take a moment to throw in a plug for what should be an excellent Northwest Hip-Hop show by Basic Shapes at Berbati on Wednesday, November 21. I had the privilege to photograph these guys at their last performance at Skyway in Zig Zag, Oregon for the Pray for Snow Party. They definitely know how to bump up the energy in a room and get people moving. Cruise on down for this free show! In the meantime, check out my gallery from their last performance.

I’ve been wanting to check out The Salmon River Project for some time now. They’re a local collaboration of hip-hop MC’s with a great message and even better rhymes and rhythms. My friends Chris and Phil are a part of the group, and I had only gotten to hear how talented Chris is on the mic at the later part of his wedding reception. So needless to say, when I was invited to Skyway in Zig Zag, Oregon to document the Pray For Snow Party, I was ecstatic!

There was also a fantastic performance by Basic Shapes, and they were just as much fun to photograph as Salmon River. Enjoy the resulting gallery!
